KEY DETAILS
Kentucky HB 676, which creates new sections of KRS Chapter 194A to establish a Kentucky statewide health data utility, became law without the Governor's signature on April 14, 2026.
In a cohort study published October 29, 2026, day-90 dose and early weight-loss response may help identify semaglutide discontinuation risk.
This update covers two items, and one of them concerns people taking semaglutide for obesity. A population-based cohort study published October 29 in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism looked at how common stopping the drug was and which early factors went along with it. That question matters to anyone who has started this medicine or is thinking about it. The other item is a Kentucky health data law from April, and it is not a new development.
The Kentucky act is an older one. Its last action was on April 14, 2026, when it became law without the Governor's signature as Acts Ch. 150. According to its description, the act creates new sections of KRS Chapter 194A to establish the Kentucky statewide health data utility, creates a consortium of public health colleges and a Kentucky Health Information Technology Board, and sets mandatory reporting requirements for participants. It is effective in part July 1, 2028. The act's description does not mention GLP-1 medications.
This one is closer to home for many readers. The study, published in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, reports that semaglutide discontinuation was common and was associated with sociodemographic and early treatment characteristics. According to the study, day-90 dose and early weight-loss response may help identify discontinuation risk. It was published under DOI 10.1111/dom.71488.
