EU product information for Wegovy was updated in an EMA record dated October 26, 2026; the latest procedure listed is dated September 21, 2026.
A study dated October 25, 2026 tied semaglutide for weight management to lower use of some comorbidity drugs but higher anxiolytic use.
Mayo Clinic's phase 4 trial, dated October 26, 2026, not yet recruiting, will compare one tirzepatide 7.5 mg dose with placebo on reflux.
An October 26, 2026 preprint says SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists have the greatest effect on cognition in type 2 diabetes.
A medRxiv preprint dated October 26, 2026 estimates that the 2026 Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic Syndrome guideline newly gives 7.48 million US adults a GLP-1 receptor agonist indication. The preprint has not been peer reviewed. This explainer covers that estimate along with four other records on Wegovy, semaglutide, tirzepatide and diabetes research, all dated October 25 or 26, 2026. If you follow who qualifies for these medicines and how they are being studied, these records may help you see where things stand.
The headline figure comes with some important limits. The preprint measures the change against pre-2026 society guidelines. Here is the part that is easy to miss. The preprint says most of these adults are at lower cardiovascular risk, and it says that whether treating them improves outcomes in a cost-efficient manner remains to be established.
This record concerns Europe rather than the United States. The European Medicines Agency record lists the update under procedure R/0000336288, and the record dates that procedure September 21, 2026, more than a month before this post. Here is what the record lists. Novo Nordisk A/S is the holder, and the EU authorisation date is January 6, 2022. The adult indication covers weight management, including weight loss and weight maintenance, as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity in adults with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or more, or 27 to under 30 kg/m2 with at least one weight-related comorbidity.
This one is a mixed picture. The study is an interrupted time series study, published in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism. It found that starting semaglutide for weight management was associated with reduced use of several medications for obesity-related comorbidities. The other side of the finding deserves equal attention. Anxiolytic use increased, and changes in other therapeutic classes were limited.
This trial is still at the planning stage. Mayo Clinic is the sponsor, and the record lists a planned enrollment of 30 adults. The study will assess whether the single tirzepatide dose, given under the skin, increases total esophageal acid exposure time during a 96-hour wireless pH recording that begins about 48 hours after the study medication. Because it is not yet recruiting, there are no results, and the record gives a completion date of October 26, 2027.
This review asks a different question. It is an umbrella review of pharmacological and lifestyle strategies for cognitive impairment in type 2 diabetes, posted to medRxiv and not peer reviewed. It also names multi-component exercise as the most effective lifestyle component. The review recommends individualized selection of interventions based on patient characteristics and baseline cognitive status.
That covers the main points for now. Each of these five items has a full record on glp1laws.com, with its identifier and a link to its source. The originals are there whenever you want the exact wording.
