KEY DETAILS
Amgen has registered a Phase 3 trial, not yet recruiting, to compare maridebart cafraglutide with semaglutide in people with type 2 diabetes, planned to start on November 2, 2026.
A separate recruiting trial is testing whether a ketogenic diet can ease high blood sugar caused by pasireotide, a second-line treatment for acromegaly.
Amgen has registered a Phase 3 trial that will test its investigational drug maridebart cafraglutide against semaglutide in people with type 2 diabetes, though the study has not yet begun. The record was updated on October 8, 2026. A second trial updated the same day looks at a different problem: managing high blood sugar linked to pasireotide, an acromegaly medication.
Amgen's trial, updated on October 8, 2026, is a Phase 3 study comparing maridebart cafraglutide with semaglutide in people with type 2 diabetes who are receiving metformin, with or without an SGLT-2 inhibitor. ClinicalTrials.gov lists it as not yet recruiting, with a planned start date of November 2, 2026, and a planned enrollment of 1,300 people. The main objective is to evaluate whether maridebart cafraglutide is non-inferior to semaglutide in improving glycemic control. Because the study has not opened for enrollment, there are no results to report.
The second trial, sponsored by Leiden University Medical Center and also updated on October 8, 2026, is recruiting participants. It is testing whether a ketogenic diet can reduce high blood sugar caused by pasireotide, a second-line treatment for acromegaly. The trial compares a ketogenic diet with standard care and does not specify which diabetes medication is used. It plans to enroll 30 people. As a recruiting study, it has not yet reported results.
Neither of these trials has results yet. The Amgen trial is planned to start on November 2, 2026, and the pasireotide study is already recruiting. The trial records on ClinicalTrials.gov list the details for each study.
